The Grand Delusion

ONE ACT

Society tells us to cast off our fear and follow our dreams. It tells us that the ability to change our fate lies in our own hands.

But what if you're really bad at the thing you love?

A wry tragedy of one man who should never have quit his day job.

Late Shift

The Best Women’s Stage Monologues 2024
featuring “Bonnie” from Late Shift

Bonnie has been working the late shift at Don's Diner for the past twenty years. It has been her second home and a source of pride. Tonight is Joe's first day as a cook at Don's Diner and he's late. As these two clash waiting for a 2:00 a.m. rush that may not ever happen, they discover that hopes and dreams come too late for some, and sometimes people are too late in their lives to make a shift.

Late Shift is an exploration of the ruts that people get into, the petty day-to-day minutia that becomes exponentially important, and the tragedy of unrealized dreams as people wait for The Moment.
